Finding Inspiration at the MoMA: Le Déjeuner sur l'Herbe: Les Trois Femmes Noires

Posted by Deb on Aug 24, 2010

While we were the the Dance Summit in New York earlier this month, we had the opportunity to see Le Déjeuner sur l'Herbe: Les Trois Femmes Noire. This sparkling 10-by 24 foot painting by artist, Mickalene Thomas, adorns the window of the MoMA on 53rd street. The artwork is layers of material, lacquer, rhinestone and paint. Thomas explains, "It symbolizes a change, acceptance and new beginnings."

This is an overall image of the mural. Le Deneuner sur l'Herbe rhinestone window Below are close up pictures of the piece, including lots of rhinestones and reflections of 53rd Street in the window!Le Deneuner sur l'Herbe rhinestone image 1
