Staff Inspiration: Mollie

We love hearing and seeing YOUR inspiration for costumes, uniforms, choreography, etc, so we thought we would share ours. Happy Friday!

Our account coordinator, Mollie, is a dance instructor and choreographer so she is constantly looking for inspiration for her upcoming pieces. One way that she finds inspiration is by being open to all forms of apparel, not just dance costumes. When she starts her design process she looks for photos of colors and styles that fit the mood of her piece. Here is an inspiration picture (found on pinterest) that sparked something for her when she was designing a costume for one of her pieces entitled “Parachutes.”

The contrast between the 2 colors is sharp and gorgeous. The burgundy tone is more muted which was perfect for the more organic and earthy tone of the piece.

Another one of her design strategies is to mix classic with trendy. It’s a great way to look fresh, but also brings in a timeless element that audiences and judges can appreciate. With this in mind, she knew that she wanted high-waisted shorts to represent the “trendy” element and chose to stick with the classic lace sleeves from her original inspiration picture.

And viola:

The finished product is a true representation of Mollie’s style. Timeless, yet trendy, earthy yet striking, overall the perfect contrast and balance of opposing ideas!
