What makes the Hudson Raidaires Dance Team unique?

The Hudson Raidaires are built on tradition, excellence, and a growth mindset—we push ourselves to give our best in everything we do, whether in competition or in our community.

Our program stands out because we train in all four competitive dance styles allowed in Wisconsin—Pom, Kick, Jazz, and Hip Hop—though only two styles in the past have had the opportunity to advance to State. This approach keeps our dancers versatile and well-rounded, allowing them to discover new strengths each season. While we have a strong recent history in Kick and Jazz, we are excited to bring Pom back to the WACPC competition floor this year!

Beyond competition, we embrace a collaborative team culture, where coaches and dancers work together to plan and prepare for the season. More than anything, our team is supportive and uplifting—we cheer for our competitors just as much as we cheer for each other.

What does teamwork mean to you and your team?

For the Raidaires, teamwork means give and take. On the days when one dancer struggles, the team lifts them up. When someone excels, they inspire the rest to push harder. Every performance is a shared energy—feeding off one another’s strengths to create our best performance.

Whether we are dancing on the football sidelines, competing on the gym floor, or performing for our community, we give 100% to every opportunity. Our biggest strength is our ability to blend unique talents into a unified team, constantly working toward a common goal.

What is your favorite memory from this season?

A season filled with highlights, but some of the most unforgettable moments include:

  • University of Minnesota BOB & Edina Weekend – The energy, inspiration, and competition at that level pushed us to elevate our performances and grow as a team.
  • Just for Kix Camp – Our first time attending, and we brought home a 1st place finish for our home routine! The team bonded through challenges, learning experiences, and a legendary lip-sync battle (inspired by another team’s tradition) that will be talked about for years.
  • Performing for a local nursing home – Watching the dancers connect with residents through movement and joy reminded us why we love to perform.
  • WACPC Fall Conference & Competition Season – Competing alongside and learning from incredible teams across the state.

What has been your biggest challenge/opportunity this season?

This year, we have our largest senior class ever—an incredible strength, but also a challenge as we balance leadership, legacy, and preparation for the years to come.

Since 2020, we have won six state titles in Kick and Jazz, and with that success comes a new level of expectation and mindset shift. It’s no longer just about chasing the elusive top spot—it’s about holding ourselves to that standard while continuing to evolve and do what we do because we love it. Performing at The Best of the Best and the Edina Invite reminded us that growth never stops, and we are constantly pushing to level up in a highly competitive sport.

What was your inspiration/concept and how was it incorporated into your costume, choreography, and music?

Our concept was simple: "Country [insert style.]” We have wanted to do some country-themed dance for years and we landed on Country Kick—but we wanted to bring a fresh, elevated spin on the classic country aesthetic. Inspired by Shania Twain’s iconic “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” the design evolved into a blend of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader meets Cowboy Carter with elements of country line dancing and two-step woven into the choreography.

  • Costume Inspiration: The lyrics “men’s shirt, short skirt” drove the look. Initially designed with faux denim and a red top, we pivoted after Beyoncé’s country album drop, opting for faux navy leather and a crisp white shirt—a nod to our school colors and a modern country feel. We originally had faux boots in DCC style, but ultimately decided on a more understated look.

  • Signature Details: The blinged-out "H" on the back has been a staple on many of our past costumes. Custom navy fringe added movement and flair, elevating the final look.

  • Choreography & Performance: From the opening bars of the song, we wanted to transport the audience into a country barn dance. The routine blends classic line dancing, two-step, and partner work, creating a fun and high-energy performance that feels like the final scene of Footloose—a full-out, celebratory country dance party!

What are you most excited about for the future of the Hudson Raidaires?

Starting in 2025, we are able to compete in three styles at Regionals with the goal of advancing to State. This expands our opportunities for growth, both mentally and physically, while challenging us to excel in multiple styles.

Beyond competition, the legacy of the Raidaires continues to grow. Our dancers are not only strong performers but also community leaders who inspire the next generation. From hosting junior dance camps to performing in local parades and at elementary schools during Homecoming Week, we are proud to represent our community through dance. At the heart of it all, we remain committed to bringing people joy through movement, connection, and tradition.
