Onyx Synchro Novice Team's Jaws Theme Skating Dress

Onyx Synchronized Skating Team's season came to an exciting culmination at the 2018 Midwestern & Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships this February! We were especially drawn to Novice Team's unique Jaws themed custom skating dresses!

The team started with a classic skate dress with curved accents, and modified the dress to incorporate a few shark themed elements: sharp white teeth zig zags, blood red accents, and an ocean blue jagged skirt. "[We wanted]  to create the jagged skirt so it could be used to enhance our creative elements by having the skirt become the shark fin. It took a couple attempts but it was awesome," Coach Heather Blasko explained.

Onyx Synchro Pre-Juvenile Team's Valentines Day Theme Skating Dress

Drawing inspiration from their music, Onyx Synchro's Pre-Juvenile team came up with a heartwarming Valentines Day theme for their custom skating dress!

"Our Valentine's Day theme was created by a song that had conversation hearts sayings within them: Be Mine, XOXO's, Kiss me," said Heather of the inspiration behind the dress design. "The Line Up was able to simulate conversation hearts onto the skirt on the dress - super spectacular." 

A custom conversation heart design was printed onto the skirt fabric using a technique called sublimation. This unique design method made this bright and colorful Valentines Day look possible - not to mention affordable and one-of-a-kind!

What is your favorite memory from the season?

The audience reaction when ONYX Novice skates their creative element and flips their skirt into shark fin circling a pair element...an incredible moment for the skaters.
